Post-Doctoral Researcher
Post-doc position in Geographical Information Retrieval as part of the GLOCAL European Integrated Project:
Your research will focus on geographical information retrieval, trust and authority in user-generated content, multimedia retrieval. In addition you will work with Yahoo Geo Technologies to improve the geo-aware services Yahoo provides internally within the company, and to the general public.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field
- Strong academic research track record focused on information retrieval computational linguistics, machine learning, matrix and graph algorithms, or related areas
- Ability to perform research that is justified and guided by business opportunities
- Ability to meet project deadlines
- Knowledge of geographic systems/geographic information retrieval desirable
- Post-Doctoral Researcher
Post-doc position in distributed systems as part of the COAST European STREP project:
Your research will be on distributed systems, focusing on infrastructure for large-scale distributed Web search. As part of developing such an infrastructure with a team of researchers and engineers, you will work with distributed software systems for large-scale data processing, storage, and coordination, such as Hadoop and ZooKeeper (http://hadoop.apache.org).
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field
- Strong academic research track record focused on software systems and networking
- Strong coding skills in C/C++ and Java
- Ability to perform research that is justified and guided by business opportunities
- Ability to meet project deadlines
- Knowledge of work related to large-scale data processing and systems for information processing is highly desirable.
- Research Engineer Position
Research Engineer position as part of the GLOCAL European Integrated Project:
You will be responsible for implementing prototypes and developing machine-learning systems for geographic information retrieval, on a large scale, in a distributed environment, using vast amounts of data. You will be working with Yahoo! Geo Technologies to improve the geo-aware services provided by Yahoo!
Required skills/qualifications:
- Masters degree in Computer Science (Ingeniero superiol en Informatica), with 2-5 years practical experience;
- Strong experience with Web development and protocols;
- Experience designing graphical user interfaces;
- Proficiency in Java and at least two (preferably all) of Perl, PHP, Python, Flash/Flex;
- Proven ability to develop novel software engineering solutions to complex design/implementation problems using experience, skill set and background;
- Specific background, experience, skill set and focus on geographic systems, multimedia systems, databases, and information retrieval in general is preferable.
- Research Engineer Position
Research Engineer position as part of the COAST European Integrated Project:
You will be responsible for implementing prototypes and developing systems for large-scale distributed Web search systems. You will also be working with other engineering teams to develop software systems of interest to Yahoo!.
Required skills/qualifications:
- Masters or Bachelor degree in Computer Science, with 2-5 years practical experience;
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English;
- Excellent programming skills in C/C++ and Java. Experience with large projects is a plus;
- Proficiency in Unix systems, particularly Linux;
- Knowledge of networked systems (e.g., cluster computing systems, P2P, Web services) and concurrent programming;
- Proven ability to develop novel software engineering solutions to complex design/implementation problems using experience, skill set and background.
